Appliance Removal St. Louis

Appliance Removal in St. Louis

A dead fridge in St. Louis can’t just go to the dump: Missouri law has kept major appliances out of its landfills from 1991 on. We carry it out of the kitchen or up from the basement laundry and send it where it’s allowed to go — a refrigerator is $164, a washer $133.

Refrigerant is recovered first, then the steel is recycled.

Missouri’s Appliance Landfill Ban

Under RSMo 260.250, major appliances, waste oil and lead-acid batteries may not be disposed of in a Missouri landfill — a rule that took effect in 1991. Yard waste followed in 1992.

What It Covers

Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, ranges, water heaters and similar large appliances all have to be recycled instead of buried.

Tires Too

RSMo 260.270 lets scrap tires into a landfill only once they’re cut, chipped or shredded. Whole tires go to a tire processor. A set of four is $87.

The City’s Version

City of St. Louis residents can set appliances out for the monthly collection of batteries, oil, appliances, tires and electronics — with refrigerator doors removed first.

Our Version

We take it from wherever it stands, doors on, any day, and route it to recovery and recycling.

Basement Laundry and Garage Fridges

Older St. Louis homes put the washer, dryer and water heater in the basement, and plenty of garages hold a second fridge or a chest freezer.

Those are the hardest appliances to move yourself, and the City’s curbside program needs them outside and door-free before it will touch them. Unplug and empty the unit, shut off any water line, and have a licensed tech disconnect gas ranges or hard-wired units. We do the rest.

Appliance Removal FAQs

How much does appliance removal cost in St. Louis?

A standard refrigerator is $164, a side-by-side $183, a chest freezer $146, a washer $133, a dryer $128 and a tank water heater $131.

Can I throw an old fridge in the landfill in Missouri?

No. RSMo 260.250 bans major appliances from Missouri landfills, so a fridge has to be recycled after its refrigerant is recovered.

Do I need to take the doors off the refrigerator?

Only for the City’s curbside pickup, which requires it. For our pickup, leave the doors on.

Can you haul a water heater from the basement?

Yes, once it’s drained and disconnected. A tank unit is $131.

Do you disconnect gas stoves?

No — have a licensed technician or your installer disconnect gas lines. The crew carries it out once it’s free.
